The delicate skins of Riesling grapes make authentic Riesling ice wine very rare. In late December 2017, with the mercury at about 14 degrees F, we were able to hand-harvest a very small lot of perfectly frozen Riesling grapes at our friend Harry Humphreys’ vineyard on Seneca Lake. The lovely and rare result is this beatifully balanced and elegant genuine ice wine, with delicate fruit and floral notes. Just 78 cases produced, bottles individually numbered.

This, our first Vidal Blanc Ice Wine, is lusciously sweet with soft fruit flavor, a round mid-palate and long, satisfying finish. The grapes were hand-harvested at 12-17 degrees F while frozen solid (the grapes and us, too) and pressed frozen to yield a tiny amount of sweet nectar. We ferment that concentrated juice with special yeast to convert about half the natural sugar to alcohol, leaving the other half to balance the wine's natural tartness. This lovely ice wine, made the authentic way, is available for a limited time at a special introductory price of $29.99.
